Cara Brown

"There cannot be too much beauty in our world. I paint because I yearn to create - with paint and paper - visually arresting images. My hope is that these paintings ask their viewers to pause and then allow the power of color, light and form to shift something in them. Two early buyers of my work both said they wanted the paintings because of an emotional quality they found there. It seems that I paint more than pictures; the paintings are reflections of the aliveness of our world, and an expression of my ceaseless devotion to live my truth.

Every day, as I go about my day, I see vignettes that call out “paint me”: I love color, backlit scenes, water drops, interesting shapes, surprising compositions, exquisite beauty. My work reproduces a moment, a space that I found interesting - in a real and alive way. Each painting begins as an inspiring sight. I capture many of these moments with my camera and then spend time with the images, expanded larger than life, looking for an unconscious reaction: the unexpected breath in."
