Martin Cadorette

Born in 1973 in Trois-Rivières, Quebec, Canada.

Martin Cadorette, a self-taught artist, started to paint at a very early age. This third generation artist has shown a particular interest for Canadian landscape which he discovered through the art of Tom Thomson. With time, his paintings have evolved gradually towards abstraction. The influence of the last pictorial years of Paul-Émile Borduas, signatory of the Refus Global (1948), was significant. Cadorette incorporates some black and white in a harmonious balance of ochre, earth tones and more recently flaming reds and greens. In his use of the spatula, he creates textured surfaces where colour and form leave the spotlight for unexpected depths. His work fascinates by its subjective reading, inviting the imaginary to travel in the indefinite world of aesthetic.
