Liana Pica Birt

Sensuousness defines Birt's paintings. Her artworks seem to be captured in time at the moment of their most mysterious vibrancy. They emanate optimism and energy. Every surface is filled with colour and texture. Sharp edges and contrasting colours produce images that reveal sceneries, objects and environments of a familiar but mysterious calm.

Birt obtained her Bachelors Degree in Architecture from the University of Toronto. Fascinated by space she wanted to take time to study and understand the relationship between solid and void, light and shadow, and the importance of searching for a concept and the meaning of proportions, texture and colour.

Drawing and painting from nature, still life and life models were the subjects of interest during her studies at the Ontario College of Art, in Toronto, where she enrolled as an advanced student. That year she made the break from architecture and became an independent artist.

Birt's art explores the surface of a moment. There is a sense of oscillation between what is certain and the uncertain, the transient impression of things that surround us.

She has exhibited at the Espace Montauriol of Moissac, France, the Albert Stuart Fine Art Gallery, Hollywood, California, the Fine Art International Inc, Indiana, the Sonoma Fine Art, Toronto, the Art Buyers Caravan, Chicago, New York, Orlando, Atlanta, Philadelphia, Dallas, Longbeach. Her works are part of many private collections throughout Europe, the United States and Canada.
