Kelvin McAvoy was born in Paisley, Scotland. He studied at the Glasgow School of Art where he was awarded the Memorial Prize for Design. Expanding his artistic talents to interior and furniture design, he later immigrated to Montreal where he designed for Henry Morgan Ltd.
Opening his own design firm in Montreal in 1960, McAvoy lectured at McGill and Concordia Universities on design. Guest lectures at the University of Toronto, Durham College of Art and the College of Distributive Trades in London, England, followed. From the late 70s to the early 80s, McAvoy owned and operated a gallery and design studio in Toronto. He became Head of Design for Peggy Joyce Interiors, retiring in 1993.
Today, Kelvin McAvoy pursues his painting full-time and is regularly featured guest columnist in the Toronto Star, critiquing the designs of condominiums.
McAvoy’s works are featured in galleries and corporate collections in The United Kingdom, Canada, and the United States.
