Hélène Fleury

Hélène Fleury was born in 1959. Drawing, sculpting, and creation of all sorts have always been a natural necessity for her. Believing in the importance of mastering the techniques before acceding to a true liberty in the making of artwork, she interrupted her studies in visual arts at Laval University in Quebec City to learn from professional portraitists. From them she learned how to observe and perceive the subjects, the vibrations of form and colour, and how to use the most efficient manner to express them. These considerations were missing in the conceptual, university teachings.

Her work in portraiture, her founding the enterprise ‘Atelier Dufaux’, as well as coordinating and directing work sites for monumental murals and sculpture, and teaching brought her a vast polyvalence in technique and methods, which allowed her the creation of a wide variety of artworks.
