Alison Hodson

Born in Oakville, Ontario in 1978, Alison moved to Toronto in 2000 to study at the Ontario College of Art & Design. During her years of education, Alison studied graphic design and photography before earning a Bachelor's Degree in Design, majoring in Material Arts.

Since her graduation in 2005, Alison has continued to evolve her innovative mix of mediums. Combining the reality of photographic image on canvas with the abstract, textural qualities of fabric, her style of work is extremely unique and labour intensive. It is the seamless integration of these two contrasting mediums that often fools a viewers' eye to believe they are paintings or solely photographic imagery. Alison removes areas of her original image and through layers upon layers of multiple fabrics and threads she recreates the image enhancing areas of her subject matter. The result is dimensional and striking. As Alison says, "My work can be appreciated from afar for something completely different than it can be appreciated for up close. It has an element of surprise for viewers and I find that so exciting."

Alison's work has been featured in exhibitions throughout Canada, and can be found in galleries and private collections.

Alison currently resides in Whistler, British Columbia.
